WAFCON 2026: Black Queens Hold Mali to Reach Knockout Stage

Ghana’s Black Queens have booked their place in the next round of the ongoing WAFCON after battling to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Mali in their final group match.

The Black Queens made the breakthrough deep into first-half stoppage time when Evelyn Badu calmly converted a well-delivered cross from Kusi, giving Ghana a crucial 1-0 lead four minutes into added time.

Mali responded immediately after the restart, with Diabate finding the back of the net just five minutes into the second half to level the score at 1-1 and set up a tense contest.

Both sides pushed relentlessly in search of a winning goal that would strengthen their hopes of qualification, creating chances at either end. However, neither team could find the decisive breakthrough as the match ended in a stalemate.

The result proved sufficient for Ghana, with the Black Queens securing qualification to the next stage of the tournament.

Ghana will now turn their attention to a knockout clash against Malawi as they continue their quest for WAFCON glory.
