World Cup 2026 : FIFA forces Haiti to change its jerseys

FIFA has sparked controversy just days before the start of the World Cup 2026 by forcing Haiti to modify its official jerseys ahead of the match against Scotland. The governing body reportedly considered an illustration of the Battle of Vertières on the kit as political content, which FIFA regulations strictly prohibit on official national team jerseys. Haiti and its equipment manufacturer Saeta quickly complied to avoid any risk of sanctions before the tournament.

Saeta confirmed the decision on social media and explained that the brand had already implemented all the requested modifications. The company initially designed the jersey to honor “the pride, resilience, and spirit of the Haitian people,” with a tribute to one of the most symbolic moments in Haiti’s history. However, FIFA demanded the removal of the historical illustration before approving the kit for the competition.

The decision has already generated strong reactions among supporters and observers ahead of the World Cup 2026. Haiti, preparing for its first World Cup appearance since 1974, now enters the tournament amid controversy surrounding FIFA’s strict interpretation of political and historical symbols on national team jerseys.
