Portugal bounced back in style after being held in its opening match, producing a commanding 5–0 victory over Uzbekistan in Group K of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Led by a brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese captain struck twice (6′, 39′) to guide his team to a convincing win.
PSG full-back Nuno Mendes also found the net (17′), before Uzbekistan’s goalkeeper Abduvakhid Nematov accidentally turned the ball into his own goal in the second half (60′). AC Milan winger Rafael Leao completed the scoring late in the match (87′).
Portugal quickly imposed its rhythm and left little room for Uzbekistan to settle. Ronaldo’s early goal set the tone before he added a second before halftime, writing another chapter in his legendary career by becoming the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cup editions.
Comfortably ahead, Portugal maintained control after the break and continued to create danger through quick combinations and attacking intensity.
Unable to cope with the Portuguese pressure, Uzbekistan struggled to threaten and gradually faded as the game progressed.
Rafael Leao’s late strike put the finishing touch on an outstanding team display and secured an important three points for Roberto Martniez’s side.
Following an unconvincing start to the tournament, Portugal has now reignited its World Cup campaign and delivered a strong statement to the rest of the competition.
