Transfers Man United Reach Agreement To Sign Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

The deal will be worth €50 million (£42.9 million), with an initial €45 million (£38.6 million) and €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons.

The transfer is contingent on De Ligt passing a physical, and personal terms are not believed to be an issue.

To be available for Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday, the defender must register by midday on Thursday.

Since joining Bayern Munich from Juventus two seasons ago, the 24-year-old has played 73 games and scored five goals.

De Ligt also played for Man United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, when they won the Eredivisie in 2019.

In a separate transaction, United have agreed on many of the terms of a deal for Bayern Munich’s right-back Noussair Mazraoui.

They are expected to go forward with the transaction once Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s trade to West Ham is finalised.

The clubs are now close to reaching an agreement on every facet of the defender’s transfer.

Wan-Bissaka’s leaving terms were still being discussed, but they are no longer regarded to be an issue.

All sides have increasing confidence that the deal will now go through.

De Ligt would be United’s second centre-back signing of the summer, following the £59 million acquisition of Leny Yoro.

The 18-year-old impressed in his pre-season debut against Rangers, but a foot injury sustained against Arsenal will keep him out for three months.

0United’s defence was decimated by injuries last season, and the situation has continued into this season.
