Veteran football administrator Sam Nyamweya has called on the newly formed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board to rise above partisanship while executing their mandate in the forthcoming elections.
The board, which was endorsed by 82 delegates during the recent FKF Special General Meeting (SGM) will be led by lawyer Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ngang’a, Dan Mule, and Marceline Sande while Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Akumu Asembo are on the standby list.
Nyamweya, who has already declared his interest for the top seat said in a statement obtained by Africa Top Sports: “I call upon the Electoral board to rise above partisanship and hold an all-inclusive election based on our laws, looking forward to a rich and refreshing campaign ahead.
“As we await the roadmap and the election date I call upon football enthusiasts and stakeholders to look forward to a refreshing journey together as we redeem and reclaim the lost glory of our football.”
Nyamweya further promised to traverse the country in search for votes saying he will have a launch for his campaign soon. “Recently I renewed my aspiration to reclaim my seat of position of the FKF presidency. I renew this aspiration well aware of the challenging and difficult moments Kenyan football stakeholders have experienced.
“In my quest to reclaim the seat I plan to do a major national launch for my bid that will be succeeded by regional launches in Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, Nyeri, Garissa, Machakos and Meru.”
During the SGM held at a Nairobi hotel, 89 delegates were in attendance, among them representatives from the 45 FKF Branches as well as the 18 FKF Premier League, 10 FKF National Super League, three FKF Women Premier League, two FKF Women National Super League and 10 FKF Division One League.
After passing the board, the delegates were tasked to ratify the usage of the contentious Electoral Code with Tusker chairman Charles Gacheru proposing amendments to the Code after concerns raised by two members, Luthers Mokua of Nyamira County FKF branch and Murang’a Seal FC chairman Robert Macharia.
