Zambia Red Arrows set flying course with league win opener over FC Muza

Red Arrows started the Super league action were they left off last season with a vital home win over FC Muza, in a midweek fixture.

Saddam Yusuf Phiri scored his first goal of the season for the Airmen in the 2nd minute. Few minutes later, Ceil Ebengo scored in the 21st minute but his goal was disallowed for an offside while Brian Chilimina hit the post in the 25th minute as the Airmen searched for a second with Ricky Banda and Ackim Mumba also being unlucky at goal.

Saddam saw his effort in the 30th minute saved by Jairos Tembo and the Airmen went into the break in front over a not so bad Muza side.

Chisi Mbewe looked to his bench at the start of the second half resting Ricky Banda and Alassane Diarra for Godfrey Ngwenya and Angel Lubamba.

Rickson Ngambi saved the day last time around when Muza came to Nkoloma stadium in the dying minutes, he had a chance from the freekick almost at the same spot to replicate that but saw his effort goal over.

Both teams would continue create half chances but failed to make them count. Charles Kalumba had to be on his best in the 88th minute to make a brilliant save to keep the three points in the Airmen’s bag.

As the match went into wind, Angel Lubamba had a sure goal opportunity but the football gods denied him a well scripted move so was Lazarous Chishimba whose going in shot was blocked for a corner.

And Speaking after the game, Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe said his team did not play their usual game. “Today we looked a bit heavy. We struggled to settle authouritively. We did not play our usual game though we created many chances but failed to score,” observed Mbewe.

Arrows played their first league against Muza on Wednesday, 28 August 2028, at Nkoloma which they won 1 nil to start their title defence and set their fly course to another coronation.
