In 2025, the three-time African champions jumped from 44th to 43rd in FIFA’s first ranking.
In contrast, Eric Chelle’s team lost one spot in Africa, dropping out of the top five.

Africa’s top-ranked teams are the Atlas Lions of Morocco, the Terangha Lions of Morocco, the Pharaohs of Egypt, the Desert Foxes of Algeria, and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
Last month, the Super Eagles played in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
The Amavubi lost to the West Africans 2-0 at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Zimbabwe’s Warriors held the Super Eagles to a 1-1 tie.
After securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Argentina maintained their lead at the top of the rankings.
Brazil, England, France, and Spain all maintained their positions in the top five.
