Benjamin Asare has been handed his FIFA World Cup debut after replacing Lawrence Ati-Zigi at the start of the second half of Ghana’s Group L clash against Panama.
Ati-Zigi was forced off after sustaining injuries during a demanding first-half display in which he came under relentless pressure from the Panamanian attack. The Ghana goalkeeper was involved in several heavy collisions, most of them resulting from Panama’s persistent offensive play, but battled on until the interval before being unable to continue.
Despite the physical challenges, Ati-Zigi produced a series of crucial saves to keep the Black Stars in the contest. His commanding performance between the posts denied Panama on multiple occasions as Ghana struggled to gain a foothold in the match and failed to seriously test the Panamanian goalkeeper in the opening 45 minutes.
His withdrawal has paved the way for Benjamin Asare to make his World Cup debut, with the goalkeeper now entrusted with helping Ghana withstand Panama’s pressure and preserve their hopes of securing a positive result.
