2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Hossam Hassan Targets Historic World Cup Run for Egypt

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has expressed strong confidence in his squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup, declaring that the Pharaohs are capable of producing a memorable campaign despite the nation’s limited success on football’s biggest stage.

Speaking about Egypt’s ambitions, Hassan reflected on the country’s rich history in African football while acknowledging that World Cup achievements have not matched their continental dominance.

“The world knows we have won Africa seven times,” Hassan said. “But at the World Cup, we haven’t made a positive impact due to past circumstances.”

Egypt remain the most successful nation in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, having lifted the continental crown a record seven times. However, the Pharaohs have struggled to translate that success to the global stage, with World Cup appearances yielding few memorable results.

Despite that history, Hassan believes the current generation has the talent and character to change the narrative.

“This time, we have a highly promising team,” he added. “By God’s will, I am confident we will deliver a truly special World Cup.”

The Egypt boss has repeatedly emphasized the quality within his squad, led by stars such as Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, while also hinting at emerging talents capable of making an impact during the tournament.

Hassan’s comments are likely to raise expectations among Egyptian supporters, who are dreaming of a breakthrough campaign that could establish the Pharaohs as genuine contenders on the world stage. With a blend of experience, attacking talent, and renewed belief, Egypt will head into the tournament determined to prove that their success in Africa can finally be replicated at the World Cup.
