Daniel Afriyie Barnieh shines as FC Aarau fight back to beat Rapperswil

Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh delivered a standout performance for FC Aarau on Friday, playing a key role in their thrilling 3–2 comeback victory over Rapperswil-Jona in the Swiss Challenge League.

Afriyie started the game and completed the full 90 minutes, producing an influential display that earned him an impressive 8.6 rating and Player of the Match honours.

Aarau fell behind in the 20th minute when Noa Mupemba put the visitors ahead, but Afriyie restored parity eight minutes after the restart. The Ghanaian found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to make it 1–1 and give his side renewed momentum.

Rapperswil-Jona responded almost immediately, with Evann Senaya restoring their lead three minutes later. Aarau, however, refused to surrender and levelled again through an own goal from Loïs Ndema in the 63rd minute.

Afriyie then produced another decisive contribution late in the match. In the 87th minute, he set up Shkelqim Vladi, who converted to complete Aarau’s comeback and secure all three points.

The performance continues what has been a productive campaign for the 25-year-old, who has featured regularly for Aarau this season. Current statistics show him with one goal and two assists in the 2026/27 campaign.

The victory strengthens Aarau’s position in the Challenge League as they look to build momentum early in the season. For Afriyie, the display represents another timely reminder of his attacking quality and growing influence in Switzerland.
