Canada secured the first men’s FIFA World Cup point in their history after fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on Friday.
The result was also the first draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with both sides forced to settle for a share of the spoils after an entertaining Group B encounter.
Bosnia and Herzegovina struck first in the 27th minute when Saša Lukić found the breakthrough to silence the home crowd and give the visitors a deserved lead.

The Balkan side looked on course for all three points as they defended resolutely and limited Canada’s clear-cut opportunities for much of the second half.
However, Canada found their lifeline through substitute Cyle Larin.
Just two minutes after entering the match, the veteran forward made an immediate impact, scoring in the 77th minute to bring the hosts level and spark celebrations among the Canadian supporters.
The goal shifted momentum in Canada’s favour as they pushed for a winner in the closing stages.
Neither side could find a decisive second goal, though, and the match ended all square.
While Bosnia and Herzegovina will feel they let a lead slip, Canada will take great encouragement from earning a historic first point on the biggest stage in world football.
The result leaves Group B finely balanced and gives both teams a platform to build on as they continue their quest for a place in the knockout rounds of the expanded 48-team tournament.
