Iraq and Norway have unveiled their starting lineups ahead of their FIFA World Cup Group I opener, with both sides fielding strong teams as they look to make an early statement in the tournament.
Iraq head into the contest in a 4-4-2 formation under coach Graham Arnold, with captain Jalal Hassan leading the side from goal. The defensive line features Hussein Ali, Zaid Tahseen, Akam Hashem and Merchas Doski. In midfield, Ibrahim Bayesh, Amir Al-Ammari, Zaid Ismail and Ali Jasim are tasked with controlling possession and supporting the attack. Up front, Aymen Hussein partners Ali Al-Hamadi in a strike force that will hope to trouble the Norwegian defence.
Norway, meanwhile, have opted for an attack-minded 4-3-3 system packed with Premier League quality and international experience. Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland starts behind a back four of David Wolfe, Torbjorn Heggem, Kristoffer Ajer and Julian Ryerson. The midfield trio consists of Sander Berge, captain Martin Odegaard and Fredrik Aursnes, providing a blend of creativity, energy and control.
The spotlight, however, will be on Norway’s formidable front three. Rising star Antonio Nusa and Alexander Sorloth flank prolific striker Erling Haaland, whose goalscoring exploits make him one of the tournament’s most feared attackers.
With Iraq relying on organisation, discipline and the attacking partnership of Aymen Hussein and Al-Hamadi, and Norway boasting the creativity of Odegaard and the finishing prowess of Haaland, the Group I encounter promises to be a fascinating battle as both nations seek the perfect start to their World Cup campaign.
