2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Renard Apologizes as Tunisia Exit World Cup Amid Stark Managerial Record

Tunisia head coach Hervé Renard has issued an emotional apology to fans following the team’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup, a campaign that also casts a harsh light on his personal record in the tournament.

Renard, a respected figure in African football, now holds one of the highest loss rates among managers in World Cup history. Having lost six of his eight matches in the competition, the Frenchman’s 75 percent defeat rate is second only to Colombia’s Hernán Darío Gómez, who recorded a 78 percent loss ratio.

Despite his experience and past successes on the continent, the World Cup has proven a far more unforgiving stage.

Speaking after Tunisia’s exit, Renard struck a reflective tone, acknowledging both the disappointment of the campaign and the uncertainty surrounding his future.

“We haven’t discussed the future yet. We’ll see,” he said. “…we are ending our World Cup journey. There was an initial agreement, but everything can change.”

His words hinted at a possible departure, though no final decision has been made. For now, the focus remained on the immediate aftermath of elimination and the emotional toll it has taken.

“I’m sorry and I apologize to the Tunisian fans,” Renard added. “I gave everything I had.”

Tunisia’s campaign ultimately fell short of expectations, with performances unable to deliver the consistency required at the highest level. While moments of promise surfaced, they were overshadowed by results that left the team unable to progress.

As the dust settles, questions will inevitably turn toward the future of both the squad and its manager. Whether Renard continues at the helm or a new chapter begins, Tunisia now faces a period of reflection after a World Cup journey that ended in disappointment.
