2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Scaloni Hits Back at Criticism as Argentina Boss Urges Fans to Savour the Moment

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has responded to the growing criticism of his players from several former England internationals, insisting that he has no intention of adopting the same approach once his coaching career comes to an end.

Asked for his thoughts on the remarks made by ex-England players about members of the Argentine national team, Scaloni chose not to single out any individual but made his stance clear.

“I don’t know, but I’ll tell you this: When I retire, I won’t criticize any player whatsoever. Whether he’s Argentinian, Japanese, Chinese or English,” Scaloni said.

The World Cup-winning coach instead shifted the focus to his own squad, calling on supporters to cherish the current generation of Argentina players as they continue their pursuit of more international success.

“My message to the fans? Enjoy the moment. Enjoy today. This is a time to be proud, excited, and grateful for these players,” he said.

“We’re going to give everything we’ve got until the very last moment.”

Scaloni’s comments come amid heightened scrutiny surrounding Argentina’s performances and several outspoken assessments from former England players. Rather than engaging in a war of words, the 48-year-old emphasized respect for players across all nationalities and reiterated his commitment to leading Argentina with unity and determination.

With another major challenge ahead, Scaloni’s message was one of appreciation, resilience and unwavering belief, urging supporters to embrace the journey while promising that his team will continue to fight until the final whistle.
