Scotland take a narrow 1-0 lead into the break against Haiti in their FIFA World Cup Group C opener, thanks to a scrappy but crucial goal from captain John McGinn.
The breakthrough came after Haiti had worked hard to keep the Scots at bay for much of the first half. Scotland forward Che Adams looked certain to score when he met a chance from close range, but Haiti’s goalkeeper produced an outstanding save to deny him.
However, the danger was not fully cleared. The rebound fell kindly to McGinn, who reacted quickest inside the box and guided his effort goalward.
