Kenya’s national team players have once again refused to train as their protest over allowances paid for recent international assignments continues.
The Harambee Stars players received KSh62,400 each for last November’s assignment in Turkey, with a similar amount paid for the team’s June assignment against Lesotho in South Africa.
The players have expressed dissatisfaction with the amount, which is significantly lower than the six-figure allowances they say they have traditionally received for national team assignments.
The disparity has raised further questions among the players, particularly after members of Kenya’s U20 team reportedly received KSh117,000 each for their participation in the recent CECAFA Championship in Tanzania.
The Harambee Stars squad is therefore demanding clarification on the basis used to determine the KSh62,400 payment and why the amount differs from allowances given to other Kenyan national teams.
The refusal to train has added pressure to the ongoing concerns over the management of the national team, with the players seeking transparency over how their allowances are calculated and paid.
The players are expected to maintain their position until they receive satisfactory clarification on the matter.
