The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate Nigeria’s poor performances in international competitions, with particular focus on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons, 10-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions and defending champions, crashed out of the ongoing tournament in Morocco at the quarter-final stage.
Nigeria subsequently suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederations Playoffs.
The setback means the Super Falcons will miss the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, ending their unbroken appearance at every edition of the tournament since its inaugural staging in 1991.
The fact-finding committee is chaired by Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, with former Super Falcons forward Desire Oparanozie, Ladan Bosso, Mutiu Adepoju and Dr Alex Mana serving as members.
Mr Nasiru Jibril will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The committee is expected to examine the factors responsible for Nigeria’s recent setbacks in international football and submit recommendations to the NFF on measures to improve the country’s performances going forward.
