Juventus have officially announced the signing of Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham Hotspur on an initial loan deal, bringing the midfielder to Serie A for the 2026/27 season.
The Italian giants will pay Tottenham approximately €2.5 million (£2.1 million) for the season long loan, with the agreement also containing an obligation to make the transfer permanent if certain conditions are met during the campaign.
Should those conditions be fulfilled, Juventus will pay a further €27.5 million (£23.6 million) to secure Sarr’s permanent transfer.
The move brings an end to the 23 year old’s spell in north London, where he developed into an important member of the Tottenham squad after arriving from French club Metz in 2021.
Sarr made more than 100 Premier League appearances for Tottenham and played an important role during his time at the club. His spell in England also included a major European triumph, as he was part of the Tottenham side that won the UEFA Europa League in 2025.
His versatility and energy in midfield made him a valuable option for Spurs, while his ability to contribute both defensively and in possession attracted Juventus.
At international level, Sarr has established himself as an important figure for Senegal. He made his senior debut in 2021 and has since earned 42 caps for the Teranga Lions.
One of the highlights of his international career came in 2022, when he helped Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder was part of the generation that delivered the country’s first AFCON title, further enhancing his reputation on the international stage.
Juventus see Sarr as a player capable of adding athleticism, dynamism and technical quality to their midfield. His experience in the Premier League, European competition and international football is also expected to help him adapt to the demands of Serie A.
For Tottenham, the agreement provides an opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee for a player who has spent five years with the club, while Juventus have structured the deal to initially assess Sarr in Italian football before potentially committing to the €27.5 million permanent transfer.
The Senegalese midfielder now begins a new chapter in Turin, with Juventus hoping he can quickly establish himself as a key component of their midfield and justify the investment that could eventually make his move permanent.
