Nigeria’s D’Tigress have suffered a difficult start to their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign, losing 99–81 to South Korea in their opening Group game.

The Nigerian women made a strong start and remained competitive throughout the first half. South Korea edged the opening quarter 26–22, but D’Tigress responded in the second, outscoring their opponents 23–22 to trail by just three points at the break.

Nigeria briefly took the lead in the third quarter, but South Korea regained control and finished the period 20–17 to move ahead heading into the final quarter.

The gap widened significantly in the fourth, with South Korea producing their best offensive display of the game, scoring 31 points against Nigeria’s 19 to seal an 18-point victory.

The quarter-by-quarter scores were: South Korea 26–22, 22–23, 20–17 and 31–19 Nigeria.

The result leaves D’Tigress needing a quick response as they continue their World Cup campaign.
