Benin suffered a heavy 8-0 defeat to Argentina in their second Group-stage match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, following their encouraging 2-2 draw against Mexico in their opening game.

The West African debutants struggled to contain a ruthless Argentine side that came into the encounter determined to bounce back strongly.

Argentina took control of the match early and punished Benin’s defensive lapses with clinical finishing.

Annika Paz was the star of the show, scoring four goals to lead Argentina’s emphatic victory.
Mercedes Diz also found the net twice, while Julieta Aguilar and Julia Vinhas completed the scoring.

The result represents a major setback for Benin after their impressive 2-2 draw with Mexico in their historic U-20 Women’s World Cup debut.

The defeat also highlights the challenge facing the debutants as they continue their first-ever campaign on the global stage.

Despite the heavy loss, Benin will now have to regroup and look to finish their tournament strongly in their remaining group fixture.
