Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has unveiled his squad for Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The list features a blend of established internationals and emerging players as Chelle begins Nigeria’s campaign in Group L. Nigeria will face Madagascar before travelling to Guinea-Bissau for the second qualifying fixture.
One of the notable additions is Isaac James, who is in line for his first senior Super Eagles invitation. The Alverca defender has emerged as an option at left-back following Zaidu Sanusi’s injury.
Arthur Okonkwo’s inclusion continues his return to the Super Eagles setup, with the Charlton Athletic goalkeeper joining Nwabali and Okoye in the goalkeeping department.
The midfield combines experience and energy, with Iwobi and Ndidi providing established international experience alongside Onyeka and Onyedika.
The attacking department contains several of Nigeria’s established stars, including Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon, alongside younger options such as George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor.
Nigeria’s AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign is particularly important because Tanzania, one of the tournament co-hosts, is in Group L and already has automatic qualification, meaning the remaining teams are competing for the available qualifying place.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to begin their campaign against Madagascar in Uyo, before the trip to face Guinea-Bissau.
