Akabwai: Uganda Sand Cranes responding well ahead of Burundi AFCON Beach Soccer Qualifiers

Uganda Sand Cranes co-head coach Akabwai Geofrey is pleased with the team’s preparations ahead of the two-legged AFCON Beach Soccer Qualifiers against Burundi.

The Sand Cranes are currently in a residential camp at Bunjako Beach, Buwama in Mpigi District, where they are conducting training sessions ahead of the qualifiers. Akabwai expressed his appreciation to FUFA for facilitating the players to join camp and participate in the preparations.

‘I’m happy as a coach that all the players were summoned. The Federation has enabled them to come here for the training sessions that we are going to have until the end of this week and part of next week,’ he said.

The coach also revealed that the squad is responding positively to the training programme, with no injuries reported so far.

‘I’m happy that all the players are responding correctly and nicely in training. We don’t have any injuries so far, everything is good,’ he added.

The Sand Cranes will face Burundi away in the first leg on 10th October 2026 before hosting the return leg on 18th October 2026 at Bamboo Gardens, Kasanje.

Akabwai called upon supporters to continue backing the team as they seek a positive result from the first leg.

‘For all the supporters that support the Sand Cranes, the Uganda Sand Cranes, I call upon you to support us and I can only wish you that I will promise you a win away from Uganda.’

This is the second round of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Senegal 2026 qualifiers, with Uganda having received a bye in the first round.
