Ghana international goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has brought his 13-year stay in British football to an end after completing a permanent move to Slovak Super Liga side FC Košice.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper, born in Bristol, began his career at Bristol City before spending much of his early years developing through loan spells in the English Football League and non-league system. His journey included stints with Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Hibernian, with his breakthrough coming during the 2021/22 campaign at Swindon.
Wollacott’s impressive form earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team and he quickly became the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs against Nigeria. However, a finger injury suffered shortly before the tournament ruled him out of Ghana’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
His move to Slovakia now offers Wollacott an opportunity to secure regular top-flight football and revive his push for a starting role with the Black Stars ahead of upcoming international assignments.
The goalkeeper will also be reunited with Ghanaian midfielder Rahim Ibrahim, who has established himself at FC Košice following his move from AS Trenčín.
For Wollacott, the transfer represents his first move outside Britain and the beginning of a new chapter after more than a decade in the UK football system.
He will now look to use his experience at club and international level to make an impact in Slovakia and strengthen his case for a return to Ghana’s starting lineup.
