Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is continuing to invest in his future beyond football after completing another diploma, underlining his commitment to education alongside his professional career.
The Nigerian international has consistently emphasised the importance of academic development, revealing that his pursuit of education is rooted in a promise he made to his late father.
Awoniyi described himself as a “quiet dreamer” and explained that continuing his studies has always been part of his personal ambition, even as he pursued a career in professional football.
“I say to people I’m a quiet dreamer. I always felt education was important. It was a promise I made to my dad that if I played football, I would keep studying,” Awoniyi said.
“That is what I’ve done and I am proud of it.”
The striker’s latest academic achievement highlights his determination to prepare for life beyond the pitch, recognising that a football career, despite its rewards and opportunities, represents only one part of a person’s life.
Awoniyi also called for greater recognition of footballers as individuals with interests and ambitions beyond the game, stressing that their identities should not be defined solely by their performances on the field.
“There are a lot of things that are bigger than football. Yes, football is our passion but we are normal human beings as well — and maybe that’s something the world doesn’t always see,” he added.
His achievement offers a reminder of the importance of education and personal development for professional athletes, whose playing careers can be relatively short.
For Awoniyi, the latest diploma represents more than an academic qualification. It is also a continuation of a promise to his father and a deliberate effort to build a future that extends beyond his achievements in football.
