Burkina Faso Cycling Loses Beloved Figure “Ladji 14”

The Burkinabe cycling community is in mourning as El Hadji Tiemtore Boukare, affectionately known as “Ladji 14” or “7+7=14,” passed away on the morning of Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

An iconic figure in Burkina Faso’s cycling community, he passed away just days before the start of the 37th edition of the Tour du Faso.

A former rider in the early editions of the Tour du Faso, El Hadji Tiemtore Boukare devoted much of his life to cycling. After retiring from competition, he continued to cover races across the country, where his voice and commentary helped bring the excitement of the peloton to life for the public.

His commitment extended beyond commentary. He was also the founder of the “Grand Prix 14,” a race traditionally held on Charles-de-Gaulle Avenue in Ouagadougou, which marked the start of the season for the Burkinabe Cycling Federation.

His passing leaves a void in the national cycling community, as his name was so closely associated with the history and popularization of the sport.

The Burkinabe Cycling Federation and the Permanent Secretariat of the Tour du Faso have expressed their sadness following this loss.

Just a few days before the great celebration of Burkinabe cycling, the sports world has lost one of its familiar figures. Our thoughts go out to his family, his loved ones, and the entire cycling community. May he rest in peace.
