FIFA Reaffirms Recognition of Ali Abdi Mohamed-Led Somalia Football Federation

FIFA has confirmed that it has not opened an investigation into the situation within the Somalia Football Federation (SFF), reaffirming its recognition of the current Executive Committee led by President Ali Abdi Mohamed.

The clarification represents a significant endorsement of the existing leadership as Somali football continues efforts to strengthen its structures, expand youth development and increase the country’s participation in international competitions.

FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) continue to recognise the Ali Abdi Mohamed-led administration, maintaining their recognition of the federation’s current Executive Committee.

Under President Ali’s leadership, Somalia has made progress in youth football development, with increased opportunities for young players to compete at regional and international levels.

One of the country’s notable achievements came in 2022, when Somalia won the CECAFA Under-17 Championship, marking an important milestone in its youth football programme.

The country is also set to participate in the FIFA Under-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan, providing another platform for emerging talents to gain international experience and showcase their abilities.

Somalia’s participation across different age categories reflects ongoing efforts to establish a stronger foundation for the sport and create a pathway for young footballers to represent their country.

While challenges remain in developing football infrastructure and sustaining competitive progress, the country’s recent youth football activities highlight the importance of long-term investment in grassroots development.

FIFA’s confirmation that it has not opened an investigation into the SFF situation, alongside the continued recognition of its current leadership by FIFA and CAF, provides clarity on the federation’s standing within the international football community.

For Somali football, the focus remains on building institutional stability, nurturing emerging talent and creating more opportunities for the next generation to compete on the global stage.
