Ampem Darkoa Ladies have secured qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after edging Nigerian champions Edo Queens 3–2 after extra time in a dramatic WAFU Zone B final in Cairo, Egypt.
The Ghanaian champions sealed the qualification ticket following a decisive intervention by Afishata Mohammed, who scored just two minutes into extra time to settle the rescheduled encounter and send the Techiman-based side into the continental competition.
The qualification brings an end to a prolonged dispute surrounding the original final played in Ouagadougou on September 5, where both teams finished regulation time level at 2–2. However, match officials proceeded directly to a penalty shootout without playing the mandatory 30 minutes of extra time, with Edo Queens eventually winning 4–1.
Ampem Darkoa subsequently lodged a formal protest, which was upheld by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The governing body annulled the shootout result and ordered the match to resume from the beginning of extra time in Cairo.
Mohammed’s powerful header from a corner kick proved decisive as Ampem Darkoa held on to their advantage despite late pressure from the Nigerian side.
The Ghanaian champions will now turn their attention to the main tournament, scheduled for November 1–15, 2026, where they have been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions AS FAR of Morocco, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda and USFAS Bamako of Mali.
Ampem Darkoa will begin their group-stage campaign against USFAS Bamako on November 2, as they seek to make another strong impression on the African stage and challenge for the continental crown.
