President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward pledge to each member of the Super Falcons following Nigeria’s historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The players have started receiving approximately ₦140 million each, representing the naira equivalent of the President’s promised financial reward.
According to a statement by the National Sports Commission (NSC), the payments are being made in recognition of the Super Falcons’ outstanding achievement at the continental tournament.
Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in July 2025 after producing a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final.
The Super Falcons had fallen two goals behind before mounting an impressive second-half comeback to reclaim the African crown and further cement their dominance in women’s football on the continent.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as recognition of the players’ dedication, sacrifices and hard work in bringing glory to Nigeria.
The reward forms part of the Federal Government’s commitment to recognising and motivating Nigerian athletes for outstanding performances at international sporting competitions.
In a similar development, President Tinubu also honoured his $100,000 reward pledge to members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
D’Tigress extended their dominance in African basketball by winning a historic fifth consecutive continental title.
The latest payment represents another major financial recognition of the Super Falcons’ achievement and reinforces their status as the most successful national team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
