2026 FIFA World Cup: Czech Republic and South Africa draw 1-1

South Africa showed remarkable resilience on Thursday in Atlanta by coming back to tie the score against the Czech Republic on the second matchday of Group A at the 2026 World Cup.

Trailing from the opening minutes after Czech midfielder Michal Sadilek opened the scoring, the Bafana Bafana spent much of the game playing catch-up.

Despite this early setback, the South Africans never gave up and gradually gained confidence as the match went on.

Their perseverance was finally rewarded with an equalizing goal by Teboho Mokoena on a penalty kick (1-1, 83′), which completely reignited the match.

This equalizer sparked an outburst of joy among the fans in the stands. The score remained tied for the final minutes of play until the referee’s final whistle.

Thanks to this 1-1 draw, South Africa remains in contention for a spot in the Round of 16.

In any case, the Bafana Bafana can draw on this spirited comeback as they prepare for their third Group A match in the 2026 World Cup.
