Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi will be available for selection in his side’s crucial World Cup clash against Germany after being granted entry into Canada following an earlier refusal.
The 23-year-old Nice striker had initially been denied access to the country under unclear circumstances, creating uncertainty around his participation in the tournament. Reports later emerged suggesting Wahi had been arrested prior to the World Cup over alleged involvement in match-fixing during his time in Ligue 1, further clouding his situation.
In an initial response, the Ivorian Football Federation stated it had not been informed of any “judicial or administrative proceedings” involving the player, while confirming that he had indeed been refused entry into Canada.
However, in a subsequent statement released, the federation confirmed a breakthrough. Wahi has now obtained the necessary authorisation to enter the country, clearing the way for his involvement with the national team.
His availability comes as a timely boost for Ivory Coast ahead of their high-stakes encounter with Germany, as the Elephants look to build momentum following their opening fixture.
