2026 FIFA World Cup: DR Congo President charters plane for fans to attend game

Felix Tshisekedi decides to charter a special plane to allow Congolese supporters living in Canada to attend the DRC-Colombia game scheduled in Mexico.

According to the Congolese Press Agency (ACP), this operation is reserved for supporters who already have a ticket for the match. The facility includes round-trip transportation between Montreal and Mexico, as well as handling accommodation.

The departure is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from Montreal, said the Minister of Sports Didier Budimbu. An initiative aimed at strengthening the presence of the Congolese diaspora in the stands to support the Leopards in this important encounter against Colombia.

DR Congo will look to take another step towards the knockout stages when they face Colombia in Guadalajara after claiming a historic point against Portugal in their opening match.

Sébastien Desabre’s side announced themselves on the world stage with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Europeans, recovering from a goal down to earn the country’s first-ever point at the FIFA World Cup.

The result underlined the progress made by the Leopards in recent years. Against Colombia, the Central Africans will be eager to show that their performance against Portugal was no isolated result.

Colombia head into the encounter full of confidence after opening their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan. Luis Díaz remains the main attacking threat, while Jhon Arias and striker Jhon Durán have also impressed in the early stages of the tournament.

Desabre, however, has already shown that his side are capable of frustrating technically gifted opponents. Limiting the influence of Díaz and winning the midfield battle will be key if DR Congo are to continue their positive start.

The pace of the Congolese attack could also prove effective against Colombia.
