Africatopsports understands that Accra Hearts of Oak are set to appoint Aboubakar Ouattara as the club’s new Technical Director, with the Ivorian expected to remain at the club after the expiration of his current contract at the end of June.
Sources close to the development indicate that the Hearts of Oak board has made a strong push to keep Ouattara at the club, this time in a strategic off-the-pitch role to oversee the club’s football operations.
Africatopsports understands that Ouattara’s first assignment, should the appointment be finalized, will be to lead the search for new head coaches for both the senior team and Auroras FC. The move comes after the club parted ways with experienced coach Didi Dramani, with management yet to secure replacements.
The former Hearts coach is also expected to spearhead the development of a unified playing philosophy that will run through every level of the club, from the youth teams to the senior side, as the Phobians seek to establish a clear football identity for the future.
This will represent Ouattara’s second stint with Hearts of Oak. During his first spell as head coach, the club endured one of its most difficult campaigns in recent memory, narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the Ghana Premier League season and narrowly making it into Top 4 the following season after a protest against the original occupier of the position.
Despite that experience, the board is understood to believe Ouattara’s strengths are better suited to a technical leadership role, where he can help reshape the club’s football structure rather than manage the first team directly. He has reportedly been tasked with ensuring the club never again finds itself battling relegation.
While an official announcement is yet to be made, all indications suggest the appointment is nearing it final stages.
