Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that his time in charge of Ghana’s national team was marked by persistent tension with officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), admitting he constantly felt his position was under threat.
Reflecting on his spell as head coach, Addo disclosed that disagreements with the GFA leadership, including the federation president and members of the Executive Council, created an atmosphere of uncertainty throughout his tenure.
“I was in Ghana for two years as coach. There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me and our federation president, and the board too,” Addo said.
The former Ghana international explained that the strained relationship left him feeling vulnerable, believing he could have been dismissed at any moment.
“It just felt like I could’ve been kicked out after just one month,” he added.
Addo’s comments offer fresh insight into the challenges he faced behind the scenes while leading the Black Stars, suggesting that internal pressures extended beyond the team’s performances on the pitch.
His remarks are likely to reignite discussions about the working relationship between national team coaches and the Ghana Football Association, as well as the level of support afforded to technical handlers during their tenure.
