The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has shifted its 2026 Elective Congress from Saturday, September 26, to Sunday, September 27, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The change was approved during an extraordinary virtual General Assembly held on Wednesday.
The Congress will elect a new Executive Committee to manage the affairs of Nigerian football for the next four years.
NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), said the adjustment was necessary because the Super Eagles are scheduled to play Madagascar in their opening Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Gusau explained that discussions with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the fixture date, adding that several individuals contesting the federation’s elections are expected to be involved with the national team during the match.
He noted that holding the Congress the following day would make it difficult for those candidates to travel to Lafia in time to participate.
To ensure all eligible participants have a fair opportunity to attend the election, the NFF Executive Committee proposed postponing the Congress by one day.
The proposal was unanimously endorsed by members of the General Assembly.
