CAFCC : Al Hilal Omdurman Lodge Complaint Over Officiating in Berkane Clash

Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have officially submitted a complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following what they describe as questionable officiating in their recent encounter against RS Berkane.

The club raised concerns over several key decisions made during the match, which they believe had a decisive impact on the outcome. Central to their grievance is an incident in which Hilal had a goal ruled out under contentious circumstances. The decision subsequently led to a penalty being awarded to Berkane — a spot-kick that was ultimately missed.

In their complaint, Hilal pointed to what they termed “strange circumstances” surrounding the officiating, suggesting inconsistencies in the application of VAR protocols and on-field judgment. The club specifically referenced match referee Abdou Abdel Mefire and VAR official Issa Sy, indicating that their decisions played a direct role in shaping the course of the game.

Hilal’s move adds to growing scrutiny over refereeing standards in high-stakes continental fixtures, with CAF now expected to review the case and determine whether any disciplinary or corrective measures are warranted.

As tensions rise, the outcome of the complaint could have broader implications for officiating accountability across African club competitions.
