NFF Sets Stage for September 26 Elective Congress in Lafia

The Nigeria Football Federation has intensified preparations for its crucial 2026 Elective Congress, scheduled to take place on September 26, 2026, in Lafia.

The build-up to the Congress gathered momentum following the Federation’s Annual General Assembly held in Yenagoa, where key decisions were taken to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

Central to the preparations is the approval of a 12-member Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, structures considered vital to the integrity of the elections that will determine the next leadership of Nigerian football.

According to the NFF, the committees were constituted through nominations from the six geopolitical zones, reflecting an effort to maintain balance and inclusivity in the electoral process.

Each zone contributed two representatives, underscoring the nationwide significance of the forthcoming Congress.

The appointed members include Matthew Burkala and Emmanuel Dada Obafemi (North Central); Babagoni Grema and Benjamin Sak (North East); Bature Musa and Abdulmalik Awwal (North West); C. J. Aneke and Arinze Azubuike Anughere (South East); Olugbenga Omole and Abayomi Akin Omoyimi (South West); as well as Ayibaye Peter Great Temedie and Ayi Ekpo Ukpayam (South South).

To formally kickstart the process, the Federation has fixed March 25, 2026, for the inauguration of the committees in Abuja.

At the event, members will select their chairpersons and outline procedures in line with the NFF Electoral Code.

Under the guidelines, the Electoral Committee will consist of five members supported by two alternates, while the Electoral Appeals Committee will have three members and two alternates, all tasked with ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the exercise.

With just months to go, attention is steadily shifting to Lafia, where the Elective Congress is expected to shape the future of football administration in Nigeria.

Stakeholders across the country are already gearing up for what promises to be a defining moment for the game, as new leadership is set to emerge to steer the Federation into its next phase.
