CAFCL: Yanga Set for CFFA Clash in Second Preliminary Round

Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC, popularly known as Yanga, have secured their place in the second preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League after defeating Botswana’s Gaborone United 2-1 in the return leg on Saturday.

The victory completed a 3-2 aggregate triumph for the Tanzanian giants, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Gaborone. Peter Shalulile was among the scorers as Yanga booked their ticket to the next stage.

Yanga will now face CFFA of Madagascar in the second preliminary round.

CFFA also advanced after eliminating Lesotho’s Lijabatho FC. The Malagasy side won the first leg 2-0 and were drawn against the winner of the Gaborone United-Yanga tie for the next round.

The second preliminary-round tie will be crucial, with the winner earning a place in the CAF Champions League group stage. CAF has scheduled the first legs for October 16–18, with the decisive return legs set for October 23–25.

Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi will now turn his attention to preparing his squad for the CFFA challenge as the Tanzanian champions continue their push for a place among Africa’s elite clubs.

The winner of the Yanga-CFFA tie will advance to the group stage, moving one step closer to the continental title.
