Dynamos reign supreme in Zambia’s Mutapa derby

Zambia Super League champions Power Dynamos secured maximum points away from home with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Green Eagles FC in a tightly contested MTN Super League fixture.

The decisive moment came in the 10th minute when Ishmael Eddy Ankobo produced a sublime finish, calmly converting after a brilliant assist from Titus Chansa opened up the Green Eagles defence.

From there, Power Dynamos managed the game with maturity, staying compact and composed as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. The backline and midfield worked tirelessly to protect the lead and ensure the Kitwe side walked away with all three points.

Ankobo’s match-winning performance earned him the Fans’ Man of the Match award.

Speaking after the game, Power Head Coach Osward Mutapa praised his players stating, “we played very well and created a lot of chances. We could have scored even more, but we are happy with the result.”

Green Eagles Head Coach, Perry Mutapa, also congratulated his elder brother and Power Dynamos

He said, “it was an interesting match, but football is about scoring, and that’s why Power Dynamos emerged winners. The team has been superb all season and they deserve to be champions. Their hard work and discipline have paid off. Congratulations to them.”

The focus now shifts to the season finale to be played at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe against Mufulira Wanderers, where Power Dynamos will officially be crowned MTN Super League 2025/2026 champions.
