Florentino Perez has come under heavy criticism from the Spanish Association of Football Referees (AESAF) following his controversial comments about officiating in Spanish football. During a recent press conference, the Real Madrid president accused Spanish refereeing of corruption, stolen titles and illicit enrichment, remarks that quickly sparked strong reactions across the country.
AESAF considers these accusations extremely serious and believes Florentino Perez crossed the line between sports criticism and direct attacks on the integrity of referees. In an official statement, the association argued that the Real Madrid president publicly damaged the image and credibility of Spanish officiating by suggesting the existence of long-term corruption within the system.
The referees’ association now intends to request disciplinary action against Florentino Perez and has called on the Competition Committee to intervene rapidly.
AESAF also wants measures preventing similar public statements during the ongoing proceedings, while demanding compensation for reputational damage as well as a public apology from Real Madrid.
