Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has firmly denied rumors suggesting a possible return to lead Ghana’s national team.
Reports circulating earlier this week in Ghana indicated that the former Black Stars coach was scheduled to travel to the country on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, to meet with President John Dramani Mahama regarding the currently vacant head coaching position.
But Appiah dismissed these speculations. “That’s not true. I’m in Saudi Arabia to scout some Sudanese players,” he told GHANASoccernet.com.
These rumors come after the Ghana Football Association’s decision to part ways with Otto Addo, just two months before the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup.
Addo’s departure follows a string of poor results, including friendly losses to Austria and Germany, which prompted officials to begin the search for a new head coach.
Kwesi Appiah, who led Ghana at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, is among the names being mentioned as a potential successor.
Sacked once before in 2015, he was brought back two years later before leaving his post for good following a disappointing campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
