Marseille: Beye’s record raises concerns after latest defeat

History will remember this stat but not for the right reasons, as Habib Beye becomes the first Olympique de Marseille coach since 2005 to lose three of his first seven official matches in charge.

This losing streak was confirmed with the 2-1 defeat to AS Monaco, closing out Matchday 28 of Ligue 1.

Yet Marseille had put on an impressive display in the first half, before succumbing to Monaco’s resurgence after the break.

This setback is significant. It plunges OM back into uncertainty and pushes them further from the podium, with their 4th-place standing now precarious.

Qualification for the UEFA Champions League is gradually slipping away, just as the competition is heating up.

You have to go back to Jean Fernandez to find such a difficult start on the Marseille bench. It’s an unflattering comparison that illustrates the club’s current struggles.

In a final sprint that promises to be intense, Marseille can no longer really afford any mistakes. But for Habib Beye, this start to his tenure is already leaving its mark… and it’s far from positive.
