Thierry Henry believes the 2026 World Cup promises to be particularly open. The former French international mentions several favorites, but especially draws attention to certain teams that should not be underestimated, including Senegal and Norway, which he considers serious contenders capable of upsetting the established order.
“I think there are quite a few of them this year, more than ever. Many more than in previous years. We don’t really realize how competitive they are. Argentina are the defending champions, so we have to respect them. Portugal’s midfield is insane, and they still have that monster up front (Cristiano Ronaldo). Then, watch out for Spain, the European champions. And then there’s us (the French team),” the former Arsenal player said.
He insists, however, that the hierarchy could be shaken up: “Are we underestimating England? Are we underestimating Norway and Senegal?
Are we underestimating Morocco? Be careful, there’s always a team that will surprise us, but you never know which one! Will Brazil finally wake up? The list is very long! I’ve always said, and I’ve been talking about it for over a year and a half, Norway! Did you see their qualifiers? They’re impressive. And I was talking about Senegal before the Africa Cup of Nations too!”
