Vladimir Petkovic leaves Algeria after World Cup failure !

Vladimir Petkovic is no longer Algeria’s head coach. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on Monday evening that it had reached a mutual agreement with the Swiss-Bosnian coach to end their collaboration. Petkovic’s position had become increasingly uncertain after Algeria’s disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign and weeks of criticism over his tactical choices.

The FAF confirmed the departure in an official statement, thanking Petkovic and his coaching staff for their professionalism, commitment and work during their 29 months with the national team.

The federation had extended his contract until 2028 shortly before the World Cup, but his future quickly became uncertain after Algeria’s disappointing performances. Despite initial doubts over whether the FAF could easily terminate his contract, both sides eventually agreed to part ways.

The main question now concerns Petkovic’s successor. Eric Chelle has already emerged as one of the names linked with the Algeria job, while Hervé Renard also reportedly attracted interest before moving closer to the Ivory Coast position. The FAF could also consider a Spanish coach, according to several reports. Algeria must now quickly find the right candidate to begin a new chapter after a turbulent period under Petkovic.
