Ghana’s Black Satellites have been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship after failing to register a single victory in the group stage under head coach Maxwell Konadu.
The two-time African champions opened their campaign with a 4-2 loss against Nigeria after being held to a 1-1 stalemate by Burkina Faso, leaving qualification hopes hanging in the balance heading into their final group fixture.
Needing a win to keep their campaign alive, Ghana instead played a 0-0 draw against Togo, ending their hopes of reaching the knockout stage. The Black Satellites finished the group phase with two draws and one defeat, collecting just two points from a possible nine.
Despite the disappointing showing at the regional tournament, Ghana’s place at the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations is already secured. The Black Satellites will participate in the continental competition as hosts, ensuring they will not miss out on the tournament despite their early WAFU B exit.
The result will nevertheless raise questions over the team’s performances, with Maxwell Konadu and his technical staff expected to reflect on the campaign as preparations begin for the U20 AFCON on home soil.
