FIBA D’Tigress Become First Africa Team To Break Into FIBA Top 8

The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) issued its most recent ranking on Thursday, and Nigeria’s D’Tigress are currently rated seventh.

After their outstanding performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Rena Wakama’s team advanced four spots.

As the first team from Africa (male or female), D’Tigress created history by ranking in the top 10.

During the Olympics, the African champions remained undefeated, winning handily against Australia and Canada, two of the top teams in the world.

Being the first African team to make it to the Olympic quarterfinals, they made history.

In the quarterfinal, the United States of America, the eventual gold medallists, defeated the West Africans.

The remaining four teams in the African top five are Cameroon, Senegal, Mozambique, and Mali. Australia came in second and the United States remained at the top of the list.

France Among the top five on the ranking are China and Spain.
