African players abroad Nicolas Jackson Reveals Childhood Idols: “I Just Wanted to Be Like Ronaldo”

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has opened up about the football legends who inspired him during his early years, naming Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazário as his childhood idols.

The Senegalese striker reflected on the players who shaped his footballing dreams.

“My idol was Cristiano when I was younger,” Jackson revealed. “And the phenomenon [R9], I liked him a lot. I just wanted to be like them.”

The admiration for both Ronaldos is no surprise, with Cristiano known for his relentless work ethic and goal-scoring prowess, and R9 remembered for his explosive pace, flair, and natural finishing ability. Jackson’s own playing style—marked by energy, intelligent movement, and clinical instincts—shows flashes of influence from both.

Now plying his trade in the Premier League, Jackson hopes to write his own story at the top level, just like the legends he once watched as a boy.

“It’s a dream come true to be playing at this level,” he added. “But I know there’s still more work to do.”

With his potential and passion, Jackson looks set to inspire a new generation—just as his idols once inspired him.
