Super Falcons’ UK Training Tour Cancelled After Jamaica Withdraw

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will no longer travel to the United Kingdom for their planned training tour this month following the withdrawal of Jamaica from the proposed international friendly.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had arranged the tour to provide the team with competitive action after the Super Falcons were inactive during the March FIFA international window.

The cancellation is seen as a setback to preparations for upcoming international assignments, particularly the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the nine-time African champions are expected to mount another strong challenge.

Despite the disappointment, the NFF is already working on alternative plans, with another international friendly being arranged for the June FIFA window to ensure the team remains competitive ahead of the continental tournament.

Head coach Justine Madugu had hoped to use the UK training camp to evaluate emerging talents, experiment with new tactical options, and further strengthen the squad ahead of WAFCON.

The proposed tour was also expected to feature a blend of experienced players and fresh faces, although several senior and regular squad members were likely to miss the trip due to club commitments in Europe and other leagues.

With the UK tour now shelved, attention shifts to the June international window, where the coaching crew hopes to secure quality opposition that will help fine-tune the team before their next major competition.
