The Ghana U17 National Football Team suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Senegal U17 National Football Team in Rabat after failing to capitalize on a second-half numerical advantage in a tense encounter.
Ghana thought they had taken an early lead in the seventh minute when Eric Adu Gyamfi found the back of the net, sparking celebrations among the Black Starlets. However, a VAR review ruled the effort out for a foul on the Senegalese goalkeeper, keeping the game level.
The game shifted dramatically before halftime when Senegal were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute following a red card. Ghana were then handed a golden opportunity to go ahead deep into first-half stoppage time after the referee pointed to the spot.
But Isaac Barfo was unable to convert the penalty in the 45+7th minute, as Senegal survived the scare to head into the break goalless.
Despite enjoying the numerical advantage, Ghana were stunned in the 57th minute when Dione struck for Senegal against the run of play, giving the young Teranga Lions a crucial lead.
The Black Starlets pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Senegal defended resolutely to secure a hard-fought victory in Rabat and condemn Ghana to a disappointing defeat.
