Former CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo Omba has officially been elected as the new president of the DR Congo Football Association (FECOFA), marking the beginning of a fresh chapter for football in the country.
The election, confirmed on Tuesday, saw Mosengo Omba run unopposed after emerging as the sole candidate in the race for the federation’s top position. He secured a strong mandate from delegates, receiving 60 out of 65 votes cast, while three ballots were declared invalid and two members abstained from voting.
Mosengo Omba arrives at the helm of Congolese football with significant administrative experience, having previously served as General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). His appointment is expected to bring renewed focus on governance, development, and the rebuilding of the nation’s football structures.
With a four-year mandate now underway, attention will quickly shift to how the new leadership intends to restore stability and competitiveness across DR Congo football, both on and off the pitch. Supporters and stakeholders alike will hope his international experience can help steer FECOFA into a more progressive and successful era.
