Hearts of Oak produced a sensational attacking display to defeat newly crowned champions Medeama SC 4-2 in a thrilling final-day encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Phobians gave their supporters a memorable send-off with an energetic and clinical performance against the league winners.
The home side wasted no time announcing their intentions as Hamza Issah opened the scoring in just the fourth minute with a composed finish after Hearts carved open the Medeama defense. Hearts controlled much of the first half with aggressive pressing and quick movement in attack, limiting Medeama’s influence for long periods.
After the break, Mawuli Wayo doubled Hearts’ advantage in the 58th minute with a well-taken finish that sent the home crowd into celebration. Medeama responded quickly through Kingsley Braye five minutes later, but Hearts regained control when Jacob Amu accidentally turned the ball into his own net in the 78th minute while attempting to clear danger.
Mawuli Wayo then sealed the victory with his second goal of the afternoon in the 85th minute, capping off an outstanding individual performance. Medeama managed a late consolation through Jacob Amu in stoppage time, but it was not enough to stop Hearts from ending the campaign on a high note.
Despite the defeat, Medeama finished top of the Ghana Premier League table with 62 points to secure the league title after a consistent campaign. Hearts of Oak concluded the season in third place with 54 points, though their 15 draws throughout the season ultimately denied them a stronger title challenge.
